Throughout the ordeal that I went through that landed me behind bars, I experienced self doubt to a degree that I had never experienced. After all, I was a United States Marine, the physical embodiment of discipline and honor. Some of the thoughts that coursed through my mind while I sat in the county jail were:
How, after all my training and accomplishments, could I have landed in jail?
Was it all a sham

If style is grace under pressure, as Ernest Hemingway once defined it, then designer Giambattista Valli surely has it in spades.
Though his Italian manufacturer, the Burani group, went into liquidation last month, the designer presented a beautifully slick show in Paris on Monday, March 8, that reminded the audience what a great designer Valli really is.
Staged in a disused bank building, the show opened with a quintet of looks where Valli played with volume, most spectacularl

Too predictable. That's the persistent complaint about the Academy Awards, whose drama generally is sapped by a glut of earlier award shows that spell out what films will win at the Oscars before the show starts.
Not this time — at least for Sunday's top prize.
With the best-picture lineup expanded to 10 films instead of the usual five, the science-fiction spectacle and box-office behemoth "Avatar" is head-to-head with the low-budgeted, low-grossing Iraq War story "The Hurt Lock

Mo'Nique won the supporting-actress honor Friday at the Spirit Awards honoring independent film for the Harlem drama "Precious," while Woody Harrelson earned the supporting-actor trophy for the war-on-terror story "The Messenger."
Both are up for the same honors at Sunday's Academy Awards, where Mo'Nique is the front-runner for her searing performance as the loathsome mother of an abused teenage girl, played by Gabourey Sidibe in her screen debut. Sidibe was nominated for best actress

Producer Mark Burnett said Thursday he is pitching a series to television networks that would be about Alaska seen through the eyes of its most famous resident, Sarah Palin.
Palin and Burnett have been meeting this week to talk about the idea with executives at ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox, according to three broadcast executives, who spoke on condition of anonymity because the networks don't publicly discuss story pitches.
Burnett, one of TV's busiest producers best known for his "Sur

Bernard Coutaz, who founded the respected independent classical record label Harmonia Mundi and ran it for five decades, has died, his company said Monday. He was 87.
Coutaz suffered a heart attack Friday outside his home in the southern city of Arles, said Jean-Marc Berns, head of Harmonia Mundi's press service.
French Culture Minister Frederic Mitterrand said Coutaz "remained faithful to his first loves, notably early and Baroque music" and praised him as a "daring spirit, sta

The title of this short book caught my attention first… I LOVE cheese! Then I saw that it was written by Spencer Johnson, MD, the author of “The One Minute Manager” I read years ago. Then I saw that it was less than 100 pages long… a perfect little nugget

Tim Urban tripped up his second shot at "American Idol" fame.
The shaggy-haired 20-year-old singer, who served as a last-minute replacement for 25-year-old shoe salesman Chris Golightly in the top 24 semifinalists, was derided by the Fox singing contest's judges for his screechy rendition of OneRepublic's "Apologize" during Wednesday's episode featuring performances from the top 12 male semifinalists.
"We absolutely made the right decision the first time around by not putting yo

British lawmakers accused bosses at Rupert Murdoch's top-selling British tabloid on Wednesday of suffering "collective amnesia" over illegal hacking of phone messages meant for royalty and other celebrities.
A parliamentary committee on media said in a report it was "inconceivable" that managers at the News of the World did not know about the practice, which the legislators said was more widespread than the Sunday newspaper had previously admitted.

How you choose to react to failure will ultimately determine the quality of life you will experience. If you decide to pursue any worthwhile goals such as your current New Years Resolution, you will inevitably experience this thing called failure.
